The Book "Songs" by George Harrison

The restoration of rock memorabilia is a growing market. This is a hand made prototype book commissioned by George Harrison, of all his songs individually illustrated by his friend C West. It also features some rare photographs from his personal archive, in this case individually stuck down. It is signed by George on the title page. The cover is in tooled black leather. Unfortunately the book has been dropped and the covers and the corners of the pages have been creased. It has also been left in a damp environment and many pages were suffering from severe foxing (brown marks). The client was keen to keep the binding as it was and so approached a paper conservator to treat each page individually. The covers were straightened and the creases were removed from the pages. The foxing was dealt with mark by mark, page by page. Due to the nature of the type of paper used the foxing was not completely eradicated but the client was happy to accept a considerable improvement without pushing the treatment to a stage where it might damage the paper.
