RAYMOND McCHRYSTAL - Paper Conservator Career History

I have a degree in Fine Art and have been a practicing artist for the last twenty years working in a studio in St Leonards on Sea., East Susex.  Over recent years my work started to gravitate towards watercolour and pastel on paper and this led me to consider building on my skills and moving into the conservation of works of art on paper.

I trained at Camberwell School of Art, which has a world wide reputation for its courses on Paper Conservation. I gained a Post graduate diploma in 2005 and a Masters in Paper Conservation in 2006. I was awarded a bursary for my conservation work by the Worshipful Company of Painters and Stainers in 2006. I am a member of ICON the national governing body of all the conservation specialists. Since leaving college I have established my own conservation studio and work as a freelance conservator.

I have completed projects for a variety of clients including The Hayward Gallery London, The De La Warr Pavilion Bexhill, Hastings Museum Hastings Town Hall, private collectors, private individuals (not collectors as such but people with treasured personal objects such as family portraits or family documents), art dealers, gallery owners, framers and artists.
